About AlleyCat Artist

AlleyCat Artist the creative name of UK-based artist Amanda Thornalley, who specialises in digital and traditional mediums with an emphasis on animals and people.

Digital

Digital art is a modern artistic expression that is created using software like iArtbook and Procreate and an electric touch screen pencil.  Each piece of art here is meticulously crafted over the space of 10 – 30 hours on a blank, 4k canvas where tens of thousands of precise strokes transform into the pieces showcased in the gallery. Digital art is Amanda’s most recent addition to her skill set, demanding creative technique, skill, originality, knowledge and indeed effort comparable to any other traditional art form. Everything is 100% Amanda’s own original work, therefore duplicates of the following pieces cannot be found anywhere else in the world! 

Coloured Pencil

Coloured pencil art embodies a versatile technique that can bring forth a myriad of intricately detailed and life-like compositions. Amanda’s toolkit comprises of a blend of high quality materials, such as Prismacolour oil pencil, pan pastels, blending and burnishing pencils, nylon and drafting brushes, and finally a fixative spray to ensure prolonged quality. She uses vellum-surfaced toned paper with a high quality 300gsm, providing a ‘high toothed’ texture with superior grip and retention. This medium is a delight to use when creating animals in particular, as the intricate details and hyper realism cannot be captured in the same way by other mediums. 

Graphite Pencil

Graphite pencil artwork is a beautifully versatile medium that makes it possible to create drawings with astonishing realism. Through the artful manipulation of tones and textures, the power to blend, soften and skilfully darken areas allows for a captivating finish. Amanda creates realistic animal and human portraits using a toolkit comprising both standard and mechanical pencils as well as a range of lead softened spanning from 2H – 8B. Smooth Bristol paper, blending tortillion stumps, and nylon brushes. Finally, she uses a fixative spray to ensure protection and longevity.

Over the last few years, she has dedicated herself to honing her artistic skills across various mediums, blending her lifelong passion for art and her profound love of animals into a harmonious fusion that is showcased in her portfolio today. Throughout her journey as an artist, Amanda has embraced modern mediums like digital art, unveiling new avenues for her to create unique and undiscovered pieces. Alongside her exploration of digital art, Amanda continues to produce traditional artwork using mediums such as coloured pencils and graphite. Drawing from her extensive personal experience, knowledge, and unquenchable thirst for artistic exploration, she has refined her skills as a self-taught artist.
